Professional Custom Cover Design
Our most affordable custom cover design option
After you complete the custom cover project questionnaire, we provide one or more custom cover design options based on your brief. Once you choose the direction you prefer, we’ll get the design revised and finalized based on your feedback for approval.

Premium Custom Cover Design
Our most popular custom cover design option
Similar to our Professional Custom Package, but great for authors who need a little more. After you complete the custom cover project questionnaire, we provide at least two custom cover design options based on your brief. Once you choose the direction you prefer, we’ll get the design revised and finalized based on your feedback for approval.
- Great for discreet and floral covers and most romance genres, thriller/suspense, and women’s fiction
- Max of three stock images included
- Minor revisions (two hours or less) included.

Platinum Custom Cover Design
The perfect option for an extra special cover
Our Platinum Custom Cover Design service is perfect for the author who wants a truly unique cover tailor-made for their story. The process for Platinum Customs is the same as for Premium Customs, but includes more complex photo manipulation or original art elements.
- Great for fantasy, paranormal, YA, dark or illustrated, historical, and other romance genres
- Max of six stock images included
- Includes heavy photo manipulation or extensive customizations for character/plot-specific art
- Extensive revisions (up to four hours) included.

Platinum PLUS Custom Cover Design
An exceptional option for an exceptional cover
Our Platinum Plus Custom Cover Design service is made for covers that feature original and exclusive artwork. Since Platinum Plus Customs include more complex photo manipulation and original artwork, the design process takes longer and includes more revisions to the approved concepts.
- Great for covers needing intricate or completely original artwork
- Includes heavy photo manipulation or extensive customizations for character/plot-specific art, original illustrated art, original photography, or boutique stock photos
- Extensive revisions (up to eight hours) included.
- Paperback add-on +$50

* Listed pricing is valid unless the author requests additional revisions during the design process or requests additional characters (more than two) and elements be included. There may be an additional fee for boutique stock photography.
How it Works
Cover designers all have slightly different processes, so even if you’ve commissioned a custom cover from someone else before, it’s helpful to familiarize yourself with our process.
What to Know Before You Order
As the purchaser, once final payment is received, you will be granted exclusive license to the use of the final cover artwork for your book and promotional materials. No one else may use that artwork for their book.
We (The Author Buddy, Christley Creatives, and or KiWi Cover Design) retain full rights of the finished artwork as the cover designer (meaning you cannot claim that you designed the cover yourself), as well as the right to showcase all of the covers and other artwork we create in our portfolio and promotional materials, but we cannot resell them or reuse them in new Premade or Custom designs.
- The purchaser does not retain the rights to alter the cover design.
We do not provide the native file format for cover artwork (PSDs, etc), and Book Cover artwork should not be modified in any way. If you need revisions to your design in the future, please email us at hello@theauthorbuddy.com. We can provide the flat artwork for your cover with no title and no author name if requested, for use in promotional materials for the book, but this art cannot be used to create a new cover or new separate artwork.
As most of our designs use stock photography/imagery, please note that the designs are also still bound by the terms of the stock imagery usage license, and the stock images still legally belong to the original creator. Most of the stock images we use in our designs are licensed under the Standard License.
- In order to keep our prices affordable, we purchase the Standard Image License for stock imagery, as this is sufficient for most author’s needs. The Standard Image License includes unlimited digital (eBook) sales and up to 500,000 units in a print/paperback run. This limit is set by the stock image provider. If you expect to go, or end up going, over these limits, please email us to let us know, and we will assist you in purchasing an Extended License for the images used in your cover.
- We are happy to provide proof of the licenses for the images used in our premade covers upon request after you’ve purchased your premade.
- We do not use AI generators in any step of the process in the creation of any of our designs. All of our designs are created using licensed stock images, or original photography and artwork. We make every effort to avoid AI generated images from stock photo providers, and we monitor the policies of the stock providers regularly to ensure we are aware if AI imagery is ever added to their collections.
